Prince Vladimir’s Path

Towards the end of the 10th century, in the territory/space between the Adriatic Coast and Lake Skadar, stood archonty (principality) Duklja, a then Byzantine theme. Duklja kept decent relations with the Byzantine emperors Jovan Cimiskij (969-976) and Basil II (976-1025). Duklja’s then prince, Vladimir, ruled over the region from 970 until 1016, with his seat on the coast of Lake Skadar, more precisely from the localities of Ostros and Kostajnica, which additionally houses the castle (the contemporary toponym of that particular locality is “Kralche”/Kraljikj”) Even today, Little Ostros contains remnants of the church Purest Krajinska, where his father Petar was buried, and as his father so too was Vladimir buried there, alongside his wife Kosara, Prince Samuel’s youngest daughter…
